Graduate Student Applications

Prospective students who would like to carry out a PhD in the SilverLab should get in touch with Angus Silver (a.silver AT ucl.ac.uk) and include a CV.

There are several funded programmes that allow 1 year of rotations followed by 3+ years of doctoral research in Experimental and Theoretical Neuroscience:

• The Optical Biology 4-year Wellcome PhD programme at UCL is a four year PhD programme with PhD funding opportunities across neuroscience, cell biology, computational methods in imaging.
• The Sainsbury-Wellcome PhD Programme offers training in systems and theoretical neuroscience with faculty from SWC, Gatsby, UCL and several affiliate members across University of London.
• The UCL-NIH four year Doctoral Training Programme provides the opportunity for students to conduct research for their PhD in neuroscience in laboratories both in the UK and the NIH in Maryland, USA.
• The MRC Doctoral Training programme at UCL within the research theme of Neuroscience and Mental Health.
• LIDo-Doctoral Training Programme (funded by BBSRC) is a large interdisciplinary programme across biosciences.
• Students can also do collaborative projects under Gatsby PhD in Computational and Theoretical Neuroscience and Machine Learning.

Post-doctoral Applications

If you are interested in joining the group as a post-doc you should contact Angus Silver at least six months in advance of the planned start date. There are several possible sources of funding for which you can apply to do post-doctoral research, most of which have deadlines of up to one year in advance of starting the project.

Possible sources of personal funding include:

• Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowships
• Newton International Fellowship
• EU Marie Curie Fellowships
